Sperry Boat Shoes and Duck Boots
HISTORY OF SPERRY TOP SIDER
After a nearly tragic sailing incident, Paul Sperry decided to create a non-slip boat shoe. He searched far and wide until inspiration stuck; while Paul might slip and fall in the ice and snow, his dog Prince never lost his balance. Based on texture he saw on Prince’s footpads, he designed the now-famous herringbone-siped rubber sole in 1935.
Sperry’s shoes quickly became popular with the New England boating community, but they weren’t well-known to the rest of the country until their endorsement by the US Navy in WWII. Returning veterans brought their favorite Sperry Top Siders home with them, and the rest is history!
SPERRY BOAT SHOES
The early Sperries for men and women were made with real tanned leather and non-marking white rubber soles, plus a 360˚ leather lacing system. Today’s Sperry deck shoes come in a wide variety of materials, cuts, and colors. From bright canvas and gum soles to no-lace slip-ons and sleek feminine silhouettes, Sperry has made the evolution from the docks to the streets without losing their nautical roots. No longer just for sailors, boys’ and girls’ Sperry boat shoes are great for the classroom, the playground, and beyond.
Kick back in style with casual Sperry shoes. Whether you’re rocking canvas sneakers, simple slip-ons, or uniform-ready oxfords, discover a preppy look that fits your lifestyle – all with the quality construction of Sperry.
